The popularity of mens wedding bands started during the second world war when couples were separated, often soon after their wedding, for long periods of time. The mans ring was worn as a sign of his commitment to his new bride.

Historically men wore rings as a sign of wealth and status so it was quite a change for a man to be wearing a simple ring as a sign of love.

Originally the mens gold wedding bands were simple and there was very little to choose other than the size. Now there are many more rings for men to choose from. There are obviously the different types of metal, but gold or white gold are still the most popular.

1. The comfort band. The comfort band in a relatively new concept and is really designed for the man who has never previously worn a ring. The ring is slightly rounded and there are not flat edges to it to help make the ring as comfortable as possible to someone new to rings. The rounded edges also make the ring easier to put on and off if they will need to take the ring off regularly because of sports or work.
2. The flat band. This is the oldest and most traditional style of wedding ring. It is a plain, flat ring. Until recently there were places where mens gold wedding bands were only available in this style.
3. The engraved band. This is for the slightly more adventurous. The band can be engraved with almost anything. Some engraving seem to be more popular than others. There are quite a few Celtic designs which can be engraved into a wedding band. These include the Warrior design which represents the seasons and the sun. This is interpreted to be symbols of reliability and strength. There is also the Celtic weave pattern. This is two strands intertwined around the ring. This is believed to represent the bond between two people. Almost every craftsman has his own take on the weave pattern and some are hugely intricate, while others are bolder and more striking.

Which ever ring you choose it is important to make sure that you get the correct size and a style which you will be happy to wear everyday. Some couples try to choose rings which are the same, while others opt for choosing independently, there is no right and wrong to choosing your wedding rings.
